We have now begun our advocacy project! Today we utilized ChatGPT to learn more about the most important issues that dogs are facing right now. Even in this decade, there are little legislation protecting the welfare of dogs and it was heartbreaking to learn more about how those lack of laws we have protect our furry companions.

One of the issues caught my eye when researching it with ChatGPT, puppy mills. I remember going to a mall when i was in middle school and there was a protest outside of this store with the cutest puppies I have ever seen. They were protesting this store because it was a puppy mill where the dogs were placed in glass boxes fit for a mouse. Looking at it from a more recent perspective, I saw the real cruelty behind these stores. Then with ChatGPT I focused on breed-specific legislation or BSL, since I had heard about such laws being put in place in the UK. From these topics I created two tweets talking about both of these topics.

To continue this, I began to research article surrounding these topics. I found one from PETA being transparent about the horrors faced by the puppies and the parents of the litters. Next I found an article from American Veterinary Medical speaking out about the harm and ineffectiveness that breed specific legislation places on dogs that are typically stereotyped such as pitpulls or boxers. If you look in your shelter, they are overflowing with these types of dogs because of the stigmas forced upon them but so many are sweet creatures waiting to find their forever home. I made two tweets about these two articles since I think both are 100% worth the read to learn more about both topics and the real harm of these issues that still continue.

Lastly, I looked for organizations that could help me along with my advoacy research. I started by scrolling through my own original following to look at the organizations I already follow to track the breadcrumbs to other organizations that support the same cause. One of those that I followed along to was DogsTrust, that caught my eye immediately by showing that dogs are forever “not just a Christmas gift”. They are an international organization that prioritizes dogs living a happy and safe life while working with other animal welfare organizations to ensure that these dogs are not being hurt or exploited in the process. The next organization I found was Four-paws, which support exactly what their name is, anything with four paws. I thought it was beneficial to find a well rounded organization that works for the welfare of all animals, not just dogs. I find it inspiring how they take on all of them to keep safe and protect. I was truly remarkable to find these types of organizations that support this type of advocacy!

Until next week, happy Twitter Tuesday once again.
